Temptation

I know the whole Internet's gone Sendak-crazy, but I feel as though I have some social ownership here: I wrote my Honours thesis on Eggers, thank you very much!
(You will probably see it in my 'books I've read' sidebar any minute, even though I should be doing other important things, like finishing off the current thesis...)

Buffy versus Edward
For years I have adored the Buffy series and really struggle to love Twilight. Don't get me wrong - I tried (I read the books, hoping to find the love) but I just can't get on board. (This article sums up a lot of my problems with it). So this mash-up is just delicious and oh-so-satisfying! EDITED TO SAY: this article and this one, too might also be of interest. But if you love Twilight, perhaps don't click through...

Love and Hate

There 'Unmentionables' come as a set of 20 cards with cute sayings that you can rip off and give to people around you. Despite loving the designs of the monsters above, I can't help but feel like giving someone a "thanks for being of no help whatsoever" card isn't particularly neighbourly.
Luckily, there are nice cards you can give, too! The 'Sweet Nothings' below are much more good karma-inducing.

When Monsters Meet Design
I love a good monster, as you've probably figured out by now. And love to see them incorporated into design quite creatively. I adored these plastic plates by Jacquie Shapiro for French Bull.
And how about these monster plates - the complete set includes, (in tiiiiiny frames!) left to right, Frankenstein, Freddy, Jack the Ripper, Nosferatu, Quasimodo and Frankenstein's Bride.

Eeee! Creepy Cute Crochet!
EXT. SUBURBAN STREET. DAY.
KATE walks leisurely to her mailbox for a short study break. Looks up, ponders at imminent rain. Sighs.
KATE opens mailbox and sees a parcel. Rising music starts. Maybe Mozart.
KATE takes parcel and hotfoots it back to SUBURBAN APARTMENT.
INT. SUBURBAN APARTMENT. DAY.
KATE grabs at parcel with great frenzy, shrieking in a slightly hysterical manner.
KATE squeals in delight. Her very good friend ALICE has sent her the cutest book in the world, 'Creepy Cute Crochet: Zombies, Ninjas, Robots and More!' by Christen Haden.
KATE looks up pensively, and wonders if life direction could be making crochet monsters full-time and not PhD afterall.
Thank you so much Alice - I adore it. xx
*But really only the beginning for crochet and me.

Scary Monster Lights
Occasionally I wonder if I really am in my mid-twenties or if I am actually still six years old. And then I wonder, what's so wrong with that?
My sister Beck bought them for me and now they hang above my desk and light up in low blues and greens. They are some of my favourite things.

Monsters and Robots

Seriously, these are the cutest lil' creatures I have seen in a long time. They are from the etsy shop MyLittleOogaBooga - a fabulous Aussie etsyer, to boot! - and are just so scrumptious I can't stop looking at the detail. The heart! The little glimmer in the eye! It's seeing things like this that make me want to spend my life saving on felt, buttons and a sewing machine, move to the country and make little creatures all day. In fact, that sounds like one satisfying career move.
I bought the grey one for a friend's son's first birthday - he's one lucky boy as I really didn't want to part with it... But now I am wondering who I can buy the olive green robot for. I love a good robot, and this one is simply no exception. And it's monster-y face only adds to its robotic charm. Swoon.
