LOVE

Just loving this room. Love that all the different colours, shapes and styles don't seem to compete with each other, and just happily co-exist.

Leather Envelope

I love that Korean stationery is really focused on a 1950s European feel. This wallet is such a delightful vintage-looking package - just lovely.

Top Shop Find

The last Top Shop dress I loved I actually ended up buying in Dubai. This one is a pretty lovely find, too - stripey and belty. Love, love and love.

Bacash's Emporium

I've been meaning to show these photos for ages. Over the New Year, I went to visit a good friend's house down in country Victoria, and visited her favourite local vintage shop, Bacash's Emporium. It used to be a haberdashery store, but upstairs is now a large selection of furniture, bric-a-brac and crockery -it's delicious.
I could have bought lots and lots in there: these bottles were amazing, and only a few dollars each.

What I did buy was the trunk below (apologies for the bad light: it's in an awkward-to-photograph spot.) I'm using it as a side table - you can see it's a sort of duck egg blue colour, with lots of scratches, which I like. Oh, and it is made of lead or steel: it is the heaviest piece I've ever lifted and the Pal cursed me as we lifted it up flights of stairs.

Now questions for you, dear Internet. What do you think it was used for? There are no holes inside and it has about three layers of insulation. It is steel (or whatever it's made from) on the inside, too. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Trunks in rooms

Loving this big old trunk. I bought a similar one recently, and I have yet to show it to you: it's in a spot which seems a bit diabolically bad for photographing, but I'll do my best soon. I do love how these two are stacked on top of each other...

Singer Sewing Table Restoration: Part IV

I am both really excited and really frustrated by my progress with this project at the moment. Excited because so much of the green has disappeared (hooray!) but frustrated, as I now realise I am going to have to detach the small drawer units to get the green paint off the insides. (You can see some paint on the right which I've stripped, but can't access to wipe off.) It's tricky work, and I've still got a lot of rust to scrub off the base before painting it glossy black. What has pleasantly surprised me though, is the lovely grain of the wood coming through. This back part has a perfectly centred, feather-like design in the wood, which is a real treat.

Now, a question for all of you playing at home: would you varnish this or polish it with an oil instead? I don't really want it too dark, and am leaning towards an oil at this stage. Any suggestions?

Collections: Amassblog

Repetition, simplicity and order: this is what collections say to me. As an avid (yet admittedly much less stylish!) collector, these images from Amassblog spoke to me.
Book labels, cigar labels, comics, postcards, letterheads and more - this is a collection of collections - a veritable eye-feast.Everyone remembers the collections in Amelie - the charming books of photobooth photos, and of wet footprints in concrete. For some, that might seem bizarre, but to me it feels oh so right.
What, if anything, do you collect? What do you love about collecting?

More matchboxes

I love a good matchbox. I stumbled on these and immediately became all swoony about them. Sadly, the website doesn't ship outside of the contiguous United States (maybe because they're wood products? Who knows) so I shall have to admire only from afar...

Bits and Bobs in Paris

Images from Tombees Du Camion

Honestly, sometimes I feel like the internet is just plain mean. Tiny Candy has posted an excellent list of fabulous places to visit in Paris, including great paper and curiosity shops. Check out these vintage goodies!

Images from Tombees Du Camion

The images all remind me of trinkets and things that I'd love to have in a coffee table, but in little boxes, and covered in glass. Much like these images below. (Minus the naked girl match book, thanks!)
