Agatha Christie Reading Challenge by Decade: 1920s

So this won't come as a surprise to many of you, but I love Agatha Christie. Ever since I was nine, I used to raid Dad's collection and get so scared that sometimes I'd throw the books under my bed! So we go back a long way. A feminist author who wrote from the 20s until the 1970s, her books chronicle so many changes in society and to this day, I've never guessed who the murderer is!

So, my friend Ezzy came up with the idea that we should read all of her books (oh there are a lot!) and then write a few thoughts on them, too. Low-impact because we're all busy yada yada, but I thought you might want to join in, too. Here's the list of the books she wrote in the 1920s - we're going decade by decade - they're in order of publication but you can start anywhere, too.

I'll post again in a month or so and anyone who likes can join in the discussion then. Enjoy!

The Mysterious Affair at Styles
The Secret Adversary
Murder on the Links
Poirot Investigates
The Man in the Brown Suit
The Secret of Chimneys
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd

Hang on a second...

Eugh the way these pictures are hanging is so amazing! I love everything about this, including that couch, but the black cords are so eye-catching and very cute. Really makes the prints jump off the page. Adorable.

Instagram

Yes, I've decided to go on Instagram. Just because. I'm not on That Big Awful Social Network That Shall Not Be Named on This Blog so it's a good way for me to stay in touch with all my friends. You can find me here - just little shots from life that, apart from these guys, don't appear on the blog.

Block Shop Textiles

I recently discovered Block Shop Textiles and goodness gracious. All of these scarves are so beautiful - I don't know which one I'd choose - and if I did, would I wear it or display it? Just gorgeous.

Metallic tea canisters

When I was in Japan last year I found some amazing-looking tea canisters, but many were floral or patterned which I didn't love as much. These metallic ones - especially the copper ones - are so elegant. Coppery tea - yes please!

Dotty Bedroom

This bedroom caught my eye in the latest edition of Lonny - isn't it amazing? There's a lot going on - maybe too much - but somehow it still looks so inviting and interesting. We have a lot of blank walls at our place (we've never had this many walls!) and when I see rooms like this, I have crazy urges to buy crazy amounts of art. But even that dotty print alone is pretty amazing. I may start thinking about how to incorporate something like this to some walls, especially in the lounge and dining rooms.

New obsession

Did you see this fantastic feature on the Design Files last week? All I can think about is buying a loom. I know, I know. My dear cousin S said, "Shouldn't we leave something for our 40s?" and while she's probably right, this just looks made for me. Colourful, a little bit mathematical and literally room to play. Want. Need?

Studio Bomba

Yes to everything, please! This is a new store just opened up in Western Australia, but gosh it's just lovely! Love the stacks of baker's twine, the little shelves - would love a wall like this in my home one day.

Dining perfection

I do enjoy a perfect-looking tableau and this one is pretty great. I love the contrast of the white table with the dark and broody chairs. And those cherry blossoms - sigh!

Real Living Bedding

Here am I in the US being all Smuggy McSmuggleton about cheap shipping and great products when Target Australia goes and produces this awesome bedding and then promptly sells out of it. IT'S SO PERFECT... Sigh. Sorry, bedlinen karma. I'll do better by you, next time.

Bookcase Love

There is just nothing I don't love about this. I'd love to get a similar unit for our lounge room - the lamps, the butterflies - it's just great.

New Sunglasses

I've been eyeing these sunnies for a while. I have a pair of prescription sunglasses, but none for when I'm wearing contacts, which I've been doing a lot more lately. So these are now in my possession: the golden scalloping is especially amazing in real life.

Sir Cat

I assume a sweater with a cat and glasses is too much if you already own one with a fox? Thoughts? The bow tie is what kills me....

String shelves

Delicious string shelves and just everything. The bird, the calendar (which I have, too) and those little vases. Delicious.

Collage Night

I went to Collage Night at the Makeshift Society a week or so ago which was super fun. The theme was 'cars' and even though they are really not my thing, I had a lot of fun just cutting and pasting and making new friends.

...Can't Lose

Friday Night Lights has long been a favorite of the Pal and I. We even quoted this in our wedding vows so it made lots of sense to put it where we could see it each morning and evening. There's a lot going on in our lives at the moment, and some close family facing some big decisions. It's hard being so far away from them, but I've found these words energizing when it comes to being able to send them love, even if it's just a phone call or a little card in the mail.

Jenny Andrews Anderson

Love this artist's blog My Favorite and My Best - and this print is just killer.
