Cubebot

My lovely sister bought me this Cubebot for Christmas. He is a robot made of wood: he has bendable joints and - wait for it - folds up into a cube. He is so perfect.

Paper robots

Paper robots! Gah! These little ones are, like many robots I like, far too pretty to be just toys. Delightful!

Robot Wallpaper

It's times like these that the Pal is lucky we are renting. Otherwise I would feel compelled to paper the whole house with robots. I am almost entirely serious... Thanks to my sister Em for the tip.

Necklace-Love

Well aren't these just delightful? The necklace above kinda looks dangerous, but in a very cool way. And the robot? Well. Enough said.

More Robot Love

What? Yeah, ok, I love robots. What of it. These mugs (and EGG CUPS!) are so great. In fact, the whole website is amazing. Check it.

Robot Love

Well, it's been a while, but I've finally got some new notecards up in le shop. These are a set of three robot cards (!!) with crisp brown envelopes. I think they're pretty dreamy - hope you like them, too!

Surprise Robot!

Recently the Pal went to Shanghai for a week of work training. He bought me back an AMAZING robot, which I adore. Thanks Pal - I love him!

Nerdbots: I'm in Heaven

Be still my robot heart. These NerdBots are absolutely superb. I deeply covet them. Affirmative.

The Real and Unreal

Japanese artist Boku Matsumoto makes beautiful sculptures out of brass and pine. This robot (ok, unsurprisingly) is my favourite!
There's something so beautiful about making representations of real life objects with other uncanny materials.

This typewriter, complete with qwerty keyboard, doesn't work, but inspires all sorts of thoughts about the nature of production. Here, the real interferes with the unreal, as we are tempted to think about how this could or couldn't work, instead of appreciating the art itself.

Matsumoto strangely reminds me of Ricky Swallow, another famous artist who constructs real objects out of materials such as epoxy and bronze. My favourite pieces from him come from the 80s, such as this ghettoblaster below.

Together is the New Alone, 2002.

Wall-E: Robot Extraordinaire

Of course I was going to get excited about the new robot film.

But that someone has made a lego Wall-E (with so much personality, to boot!) is just even better.

Ahhh.

There is also a Wall-E toy available, which has a 'follow-me' mode - you can make it follow you around the house! Eeeee!

As a snippy aside, I don't understand why this film has such a late release date in Australia (September 18th) when it's already out in the US and Canada? Grrr!

Autobots, Roll Out!

Image via Design Boom

As a big fan of the Transformers film, and robots in general, I quite enjoyed these styrofoam lovelies. So lucky they won't decompose for millennia.

Thought you could all do with a bit of robot love over the weekend.

You could also watch New Zealand's best export ever sing about their robot friends. Binary solo!

See you Monday!

Monsters and Robots

Seriously, these are the cutest lil' creatures I have seen in a long time. They are from the etsy shop MyLittleOogaBooga - a fabulous Aussie etsyer, to boot! - and are just so scrumptious I can't stop looking at the detail. The heart! The little glimmer in the eye! It's seeing things like this that make me want to spend my life saving on felt, buttons and a sewing machine, move to the country and make little creatures all day. In fact, that sounds like one satisfying career move.

I bought the grey one for a friend's son's first birthday - he's one lucky boy as I really didn't want to part with it... But now I am wondering who I can buy the olive green robot for. I love a good robot, and this one is simply no exception. And it's monster-y face only adds to its robotic charm. Swoon.
