Alice pointed me to these amazing map lino cuts of Amsterdam - Mark Andrew Webber also takes custom lino cut commissions, so if you're in the mood for a custom print with delicious typography, he just might be your man!

New Felt Bow Headbands
I've had a few days off recently while my supervisors read the full draft of my thesis. I may or may not have been a little anxious to hear back from them, so read a lot and made a lot in the meantime!
These headbands are fun to add a little pop to your outfit: I love how oversized they look.

Leah Evans Textiles
Remember how I posted about soft map quilts a while back? Well these ones by Leah Evans zoom out even further than street level, to sea and fields and lakes.
I am almost speechless at the type of effort these involve. When I first saw them, I immediately wanted to make map quilts of my childhood, or of Sydney itself, where I grew up and where my family lives.*

New Quilt
Finally the new quilt is done. It is nowhere near as well made as some professional quilts out there, but the sense of achievement is intense!
It is backed with pale grey and bound with sky blue, and is the perfect size for couch-snuggles. The wonky stitching is actually on purpose, and it feels cosy, light and gorgeous to be underneath. I'm really happy with the finished product, and am already planning up new colours and designs for the next one...

Papercraft Friday 11: Laura Cahill
Laura Cahill makes vases from books - the intricacy of the cutting and the way the pages splay out is so amazing - like hundreds of spines or shells. In fact, some of them even look like gourds, or melons from paper trees.

Quilt Progress
Do you remember this quilt I was making? It's all finished and I shall post photos on Monday - very excited about it!
These are some new supplies for the next one - I'm making it for a friend - and I'm really, really keen to get started on it.
(By the way, the gorgeous button was a birthday present from a lovely friend!)

Herzensart by Sandra Monat
Who knew I needed Viking plates? But I obviously do. Quite badly. (They sort of remind me of Gimli, too, which adds all sorts of excellent).

Papercraft Friday 10: Cara Barer
I've been a bit remiss on my Papercraft Friday posts, but Cara Barer's stunning photography is enough to make anyone jump into action.
These books look like organic creatures, caught in space or deep water: so still and yet really dynamic, too.

Soft Map Quilts
These map quilts made me stop still. And stare. And stare some more. The heartbreaking time it would take to sew a map is astounding! I love the idea of being able to wrap myself up in a place.

Vanilla Week Diary
When I see a good diary, I buy it. Even though I know I'm months away from being able to use it! This one is particularly cute from Korean brand Monopoly. If Ebony designed a diary, I imagine it might look something like this: whimsical, pretty and oh so cute. Roll on 2010!

A Whale of a Time
Way back in May I told you about the Beached Whale cartoon done by some incredibly talented friends: Jarod, Bosh and Macca. A Youtube sensation with over 5 million hits, tonight it debuts on ABC 1 (that's our national broadcaster, international friends) as the beginning of an eleven part series!
Truly huge amounts of work have gone into the series and you can see some hilarious 'making of' snippets right here.
Also, check out Alice's interview for more info.
Maija Louekari: Clothes
Remember my first post on Maija Louekari? Well have a look at the clothes for which she also makes fabric.
The glasses dress is one of my favourites - and the bricks and windows one is also gorgeous.
These raindrop dresses make me all tingly! I love the idea of them - especially the bell sleeves on the left.

Maija Louekari
My friend A was lucky enough to purchase some beautiful Marimekko fabric on a recent trip to Finland.
And yes, she was also lucky enough to go on a trip to Finland!
The artist was Maija Louekari and I had great pleasure perusing her website to find these beautiful images.
The use of colour makes me want to splash paint on canvases and wear pretty, swirly summer dresses all at once.
This above print is the one my friend bought - but it's in pink. Swoon! She has it pinned up on her wall and it looks fantastic.
Have a look through her website - you will not be disappointed!

Sandra Juto
Sandra Juto's drawings remind me of snowy days and nights by wood fires.
And mittens and trees and flowers and perplexed-looking sheep.
And coloured volcanoes (or disorganised bunting?) And crying moose. What more could you want?
