This is what I've been studiously working on for the last few weeks - my first ever quilt! It's a present for a new niece (the Pal's brother and his wife are expecting in September) and I had such fun making it, imagining the little hands loving it in the future.
I broadly followed this excellent tutorial, although mine looks a lot more amateur. I used different coloured threads in purposely uneven lines of pale pink, peach, purple and a darker green, and hand sewed the dark green binding.
It's got me thinking of all the future quilts I shall make - I have one in mind for our loungeroom in blues and greys... (Also, excuse the poor quality of shots - I took them at night as I was too excited to give it to the parents-to-be!)
I had a friend's sister make me a quilt when I was pregnant with my second child. Blue, green, and pink, with a star somehow in the pattern. He didn't sleep with it, but for the first 6 months of his life it was what I would lay on the floor to keep him from things too hard. Now that boy is 19, sitting right here with me on the sofa, reading a book. *sniff*. I still have the quilt. What a great present.
ReplyDeleteAhh that's exactly what I hope for, LPC! My great aunt made me one, too, which was a playmat, blanket and friend. It's in my parents' linen cupboard awaiting the next child to be born... Thank you for such a lovely comment.
