The Perfect Coffee Table

I am going on a hunt this weekend to find a perfect* coffee table for our apartment. I'm having a lot of trouble trying to work out what I'd like - more because of price constraints, but also because of style.

This dog table from NEL via Design*Sponge might be perfect, except for the fact that it is in Mexico and I am in Australia...

*Perfect means, of course, the right size, colour and price for us. Not objectively perfect. That would be much harder!

Genius Headboard

I have been looking for a headboard (padded, thank you very much) for ages, but I can't afford to spend the inevitable $700+. When I came across this brilliant idea - an ikea mattress! - I was so incredulous. I think it's phenomenal! While I love the grey in this image, our bedroom is a bit more brown, so I think a white one would be perfect. I could either cover this model, or go for a model like this:

Do you think it would get all saggy on the corners? I might have to go for a firmer latex one in that case. Hmm. The endless possibilities!

More label downloads

Are these delicious? Download them here from a print a day. They also fit in to my current 'recessionista' phase, where i"m trying to cut down on spending money. I told my grandma about this, and she said, "Ah yes, an economy campaign." I realised that she's been through more than one of these, which made me feel oddly ok.

As another part of my personal economy campaign, I am loving these podcasts from 'All Songs Considered - Live Concerts' on NPR. You can download them for free on iTunes, and they are full-length audio of concerts - the recent Antony and the Johnsons one is superb.

Anyone have any other cheap and cheerful tips?

Rubber Stamps Ahoy!

These stamps remind me of the coffee break stamps I bought while overseas. How many stamps would you call too many?

Wave Scarves

I found these stunning scarves by Italian etsy label Giia - aren't they deliciously wavey? The blue one in particular jumps out as a favourite - it looks part plant, part animal and part swoon.*

All images copyright Giia.

*Swoon is, as I'm sure you know by now, neither animal, mineral nor vegetable - more just that feeling of "something here is oh so right". You know what I mean...

Herve Leroux

I took the above photo when I was last in Paris, running past the boutique to have dinner with friends at the delicious 'Au 35', Rue Jacob on the left bank. I thought it to be the most perfect dress in the world. Now I have looked at the Herve Leroux website, I think this dress has cute friends that I also would love to own.

More Rob Ryan Swoon

I have already professed my love to Rob Ryan, but now I must do it again. He has a new range of tiles out and I am all a-flutter once more. They are all available in the lovely shop here. Sigh.

How Do You Like Them Apples?

Something about apples that makes me squeally. A bit embarrassingly so, actually.

The Key

This was a V-Day project on Design Sponge, but I think it could be an any-day piece. So pretty! I am having a moment loving keys. They seem to be just so perfectly useful and symbolic at the same time.

Stitched Cards

I was lucky enough to be given some beautiful cards last week, which I studied and studied until I worked out how to make them. These ones are made by me - I think I've finally cracked the code (after a few misfires) and now can sew these flames or leaves all by myself. I'll try to post a tutorial is anyone's interested (let me know), but they're a low-tech and very easy craft project.

I'm not sure about the use of two colours here, but I'll keep experimenting...

Simon Evans

Isn't this amazing? I think a photography project of everything I own would really make me think of all my possessions in a distinctly different way.

Hmm...disturbing google searches

I took this photo in Montmatre on one of my Paris visits back in 2005. It was up against a wall near a pub. I think it's genius.

I have been a bit disturbed when, looking at my statcounter, that people have been googling for naughty things. Sadly, they have come to my blog because they think it might be about different things. This is about design, fun and whimsy people! Keep it clean! Gah!

Covetous Shoes

Charlie Max is a super cute Aussie outfit making kissy-hot shoes. Methinks a pair may grace my own toes in the coming Autumn.

Bubble Bath World

Ben has done it again and made a song I adore and just can't get out of my head! This is beautiful - enjoy.

The White Kitchen

Yeah, peaceful white kitchens. You'd think I would have had enough, but no so, dear reader! Swoon.
