Marimekko Win

I was incredibly lucky to win a competition from the lovely Captain KK - this beautiful Marimekko plate. Even my lone truss tomato looks thrilled to be there. Thank you Captain - it is absolutely magnificent and I smile every time we pass in the kitchen.

Owl Calendar

I know, another trend animal. The owl. But my friends, I loved owls long before Harry Potter and before they were hungover. My love stemmed from two wonderful and unique facts: owls can turn their heads around 360 degrees (don't correct me on that if I'm wrong. I enjoy the myth) and that their collective noun in 'parliament'. Awesome.

So if you like owls like I do, you might like to check out this delightful, customisable owl calendar. Incredibly cool.

Darien's Birthday Quilt

My friend Darien turns 30 tomorrow, and came out from the UK to celebrate with her identical twin! I knew that Darien's lounge room has lots of blues and reds in it, and that she loves all things handmade, so I made this quilt for her to snuggle with in Manchester.

I had some hesitations about making a gift: what if she hated it? And what if all my other friends who read this think, 'I hope she doesn't make one for me one day!' So tell me, dear readers, what are your thoughts on handmade gifts? (For the record, I love them...)
This new little label is made from one of my handmade stamps, and might be a recurring feature on my quilts. Now, to get to the huge quilt backlog!

Etsy Giveaway: Revealed!

Butterflies getting ready to fly away to new owners.

After a delightful response to my giveaway, I used a random number generator and the winner is:

LPC who said: "Congratulations Kate. You know I think your stuff is super-cute. I agree, especially the map work."

Thank you LPC! Hurrah!

Please get in touch with me on etsy with what you'd like to order and I shall post it out to you!

I should say here that I had a number of entries who found me via a website which trawls the internet for giveaways from small time bloggers and Etsy store owners like myself. Without sounding too grouchy about it, (I know, it's free publicity and traffic to my site), I was unimpressed when people would write entries about how much they loved my shop and have read my blog for ages - when I can see that they just found it a minute ago and went straight to the giveaway post! I guess I don't mind them entering, but don't be disingenuous about it!! Do you have any thoughts on the subject, dear readers?

A Print a Day has put up a lovely embroidery/crafty pattern of cups and saucers. Go on over and have a look - she has a PDF download available. So pretty!

Happy weekend, lovelies - I'll be back Monday after two baby showers, a welcome home party, a girls' dinner, some teaching and hopefully some quiet time reading on the couch. xx

Packs of Colour and Giveaway!

I have been busy last weekend making all sorts of little things. I was inspired by this idea of spring in a box, and I thought it would be nice to send 'colour in a box' to some of my friends.I got out all my craft supplies and tried to find bits and pieces which were bright and fun. I packaged some fun stickers in glassine envelopes, and made some badges with some bright Japanese paper. I bought some ridiculous smiley pencils which can't help but look like fun.
And added some gift tags I made...These little map books turned out exactly as I had hoped. They are lined with bright coloured paper and sewn down the spine (and are also in le shop).See? Colours ahoy!

I packaged up some mini crayons with a little apple stamp... ...and packaged them all up in a vintage-looking popcorn bag!

Now, for the exciting bit for you... I have one more pack to giveaway! So leave me a comment before next Thursday 25th June and I shall pick a winner at random. Feel free to link through from your blog, too!

By the way, I have marked down all the Japanese stationery in the shop - have a look if you feel like it!

More label downloads

Are these delicious? Download them here from a print a day. They also fit in to my current 'recessionista' phase, where i"m trying to cut down on spending money. I told my grandma about this, and she said, "Ah yes, an economy campaign." I realised that she's been through more than one of these, which made me feel oddly ok.

As another part of my personal economy campaign, I am loving these podcasts from 'All Songs Considered - Live Concerts' on NPR. You can download them for free on iTunes, and they are full-length audio of concerts - the recent Antony and the Johnsons one is superb.

Anyone have any other cheap and cheerful tips?

One Year Etsy-Versary Giveaway!

I can't believe it, but it has been one whole year today since I started selling on etsy! Thank you so much everyone who supported the shop over the past year - I've met some delightful people.

As a celebration, I'm giving away a $20 (US) voucher to my shop (I'll pay shipping)!

All you have to do is leave a comment below (please include your email address if you don't have a blog) and I'll randomly draw a winner on next WEDNESDAY the 8th October, 2008.

**EDITED TO SAY: I'm not particularly keen on people who google 'giveaway' and then leave ingratiating comments. It's lame. At my own discretion, (and the fabulous StatCounter) you will be removed from the draw.

Love You Big Giveaway and Competition!

I am not a girl who overuses the exclamation mark, but felt that it was warranted here.

In light of my Random Acts of Kindness project, which I will tell you about soon (eee!), I thought I would be the first to start, and am having a competition on my blog.

What do I have to do to enter?
Write to me in the comments section about a RAK of which you have been on the receiving end, or a RAK you have done for someone else. (Or even a RAK you want to do, but haven't done yet). Doing Random Acts of Kindness can be for people you know or for strangers, and they don't have to be big - even making a cup of tea for a friend can qualify!

What could I win?
A huge collection of paper bits and pieces from loveyoubig! I have put together a selection of papers, handmade envelopes, stickers, seals, and little bits of lovely. This will be an even bigger selection that those on sale at my shop...so much kindness is one pack!

How will the winner be decided?
I'll write your names down and draw one from a hat. Not really a foolproof or fraudproof method, I know, but I pride myself on my honesty. :) I'll draw the winner next Friday 18th July at 11am in Sydney, Australia.

Please feel free to promote this on your own blog and provide a link back to mine. Thanks!
