Appendage: Emily Hunt

I have written before of how much I love Emily's work, but last week I was lucky enough to visit her first solo exhibition at metalab in Surry Hills. Called 'Appendage', it is full of incredible pieces which look like parts of the body, coral, and at times, tribal necklaces.
This piece (above) was my favourite: it is made from silicon, thread and beads and it took over five weeks to sew the beads and to wrap the thread over the silicon base. Breathtaking in real life: this photo just doesn't do it justice.

Goodies in the mail!

There's almost nothing better than receiving things in the mail. It makes me squeal with happiness! Today, I was lucky enough to receive two lovelies, and am now feeling quite bouncy and happy.

First up, a little while ago, I won a competition (eeee!) on the blog of the lovely Mary of contrary-fame. I am so excited, as not only did I receive the most beautiful earrings made from vintage bingo markers (see below), but I have been a long-time fan and customer of Mary's delicious site. Do go there, and have a look around - it's so much fun and she has free shipping to anywhere in the world! Above are the lovely earrings wrapped (complete with contrary moo card!)...here they are - ta-da!

And then I was also lucky enough to get a magnificent card (and newsy, newsy letter!) from my lovely friend (and newly initiated fan of both blogs and stationery!) Miss T.

These cards are made by Care Crafts, the proceeds of which go to the "education of children and empowerment of women in Pakistan". They are so beautiful - the green part is silk with gold paint and sequins. Thank you, my love!

I love the way that the 80s is creeping into lots of facets of design these day. As a child of 1982, it is very pleasing to see such things coming around again.

Victoria Mason has beautiful pieces which resonate with parts of her childhood. I think they're stunning, just as I love the Darkcloud Silver for the same reason - check out that turntable necklace!

Every time I see Em, she is wearing a new design which seems to look half-alive, with pods and seeds arranged in the most thoughtful way. And her magnificent website is replete with some stunning designs, and the whole site looks like you're flipping through an old book, which is even better.
