Grandmothers

This photo means so much to me: it's of my darling grandmother Edna (centre) and her two beloved sisters, Josie and Gwen. I don't know how to date it, but think it'd probably be about the late 1930s or early 1940s. Grandma never liked smiling into cameras, so she looks a lot more severe here than she ever was. I miss her everyday, but am so lucky to wear her engagement ring as my own.

  1. I get the sense that smiling was a no go in photos back then, I can't find any smiling photos of my grandparents either. A warm fuzzy post.

  3. Awww, love the photo and the sentiment. I can totally relate, I miss my Grandma every day and she passed in 1994. I have a couple old photos of her fom when she was young and I love looking at them. You've inspired me, I may post them on my blog too. It's a nice little tribute.

  4. I think it is a grandmother thing. One of my grandmothers and one of my grandfathers never smiled in photos, but surprisingly my other grandfather did and my grandmother does. Love the photo (and this is not a good photo to look at at work and start getting teary). Cx

  5. How sweet. I loved my grandmother too. Now that I'm a grandmother I get to feel the love from the other side and it is just as awe-inspiring.
