As I start to think/dream about setting up our new apartment (yes, the one we don't yet have...), I've been thinking a lot about stripey linens. You know - a nice, orderly stripey bed? Yeah, that's the one. These two from Pure Home and West Elm are current favourites.

New boots
One of the perils of moving to another country is working out how to get your stuff over there. We ended up taking suitcases and also shipping over some clothes and kitchen stuff. On the day that the international movers came, I was not at my best and did a pretty average job of packing the right stuff. Consequently, I have had to invest in some new clothes, especially warm ones, as I overestimated how warm it is in summer. (FYI it is not warm!) So these boots (from here and here) are on their way to me now - hopefully they'll fill the wardrobe hole that is not-sandals and not-winter knee high boots.

Portland Rose Garden
Well I'm back in SF. In fact, today is my first day of work, so wish me luck please!
I wanted to share a few pictures from the road trip we just did up the Californian coast up to Portland - such a spectacular trip. These photos are from the Portland Rose Garden - can I just say ohmygoodness? Such a gorgeous, sunny day and the smell of these roses was extraordinary, I took far too many pictures to post here, but here are a few of my favourites. Please visit this garden if you're ever in Portland - it's so, so worth it.

Settling in
I'm going to be offline for a little bit as we settle into San Francisco. We're currently on a road trip - I'll share more photos soon. In the meantime, here's one I took on Sunday at the Exploratorium. Fancy, huh?

Polka Dots
I find it hard to walk past a good polka dot. These sneakers are calling my name at the moment. Very potently. Oh, and San Francisco is rainy and foggy, you say? Lucky I bought this raincoat.

Butter dish from Claska
Well Internet, I don't expect you to get behind this as much as I do, but here it is. I had a love affair with a butter dish in Japan. I saw it in about three different shops and finally bought one in Nakameguro. It has a cold, white enamel base and a beautifully soft wooden top. I might not even use it for butter but it really is a stunning piece of work.

Patchwork shows such attention to detail and I love the translucence of this work - so perfectly sized.

Black and white
This room reminds me of my sister Em, who loves all things black and white. So soothing and that deer head is totally amazing.

Ooh, a bench of plants!
Whoops - a few days went by there - turns out this moving country thing is pretty time-consuming. I'm stuck in a visa limbo at present which is stressful and a bit discombobulating, but hopefully I'll have resolution soon. In the meantime, this bench of plants is making me pretty happy.
